(14,026 posts)54. Unfortunately, I think the new Congress gets the last word.
The Republican Congress would simply object to and then vote to exclude any electoral votes for Clinton that came from a state Trump won. That would take the majority of votes away from Trump, but then the House of Representatives would have to choose between Trump and Clinton, because no one else would have any electoral votes. To keep Trump out, somehow a third candidate needs to get at least one electoral vote that the Republicans in Congress would not disqualify. Then the Republicans in Congress could nail Trump by voting for that person. It seems a lot more likely that they would do that for Kasich than vote in Hillary.
