(15,909 posts)...there is the issue that "the Constitution is not a suicide pact".
If the only problem here were that the Electoral College disagrees with the popular vote, I'd agree there's no grounds for a "do over". But when a foreign power is discovered to have been manipulating our elections, I think that's quite another matter. It might well count as "suicide" to allow that to stand.
Though I hold out hope that our system is sound and will suffer mostly (only mostly) reversible damage that can be fixed in the next election, I worry that there's a higher than acceptable probability (even 10% would count) that there either won't be a next election anytime soon, or only the mockery of an electoral process.
The Electoral College is supposed to be a safeguard against something like this, but the framers of the Constitution didn't anticipate deep partisanship overriding patriotic duty to protect the country from the likes of Trump and Putin.
