A good example is the state of Alabama where the Republican governor refused to expand medicare even when the a study by the most prestigious hare care university in the state - UAB (U of A at Birmingham) showed that not doing so would cost the state one billion dollars financial growth and jobs. The excuse was that the state would have to pay up to 10% of the bill after three years.
