If a store posts on it front door, "Muslims not welcome here" [View all]

Is that legal? I went to a store and they had this on its front door. I let them know I would not shop there and owner said something about free speech and I said the money I spend is a form of free speech, too... I took a photo and am wondering if 'not welcome' is ok whereas 'not allowed' is illegal because Muslims are a protected group because of religion.
