I'm curious. I already mentioned this in a response to an OP, but I have almost gotten crushed 3 separate times in the past 6 weeks while walking in my city. I do not have a car, and I walk everywhere. As I live in California, it is illegal to text while driving, but I see almost every single driver texting at every stoplight or stop sign. How could anybody think it's safe or a good idea?
The 3 times I've almost been run down were all at crosswalks. I walk across at a stop sign, and the driver is texting. . . . They don't even fucking look. They keep texting and take their feet off the brake. Consequently I get knocked down by an enormous car.
I'm certainly not fragile, but I can't compete with a vehicle. I'm not surprised that death rates on the road have climbed precipitously. If you're texting and driving, you better not run me down, because I'll fucking own you. And if you kill me while you're texting, you really better watch out, as I have instructions for my relatives to go to any legal means to have you punished.
This is bullshit. And yeah, I know pedestrians can be assholes, but we're not the ones in the "tanks", and I stay the hell out of the way unless I'm in a crosswalk or other legal passage.
