In reply to the discussion: I have an honest question. How many people here actually text and drive? [View all]politicat
(9,810 posts)Calls get rejected. It's that simple. The neuroscience is too clear -- brains on cellphones are way too busy to be also driving.
When I'm going someplace I don't know, phone is mounted to Driver's right vent, for GPS. (I'm good at navigating. But I live someplace that has issues with Can't Get There From Here because of ridge lines, and way too many in-filled sub-cities that change street names at the town border.)
I still don't answer texts.
The whole point of a text is that it's not supposed to be instant communication. It's supposed to be less intrusive on the recipient's time and attention than a phone call. Anyone who can't deal with that? That's someone who doesn't respect other people's time and attention anyway, and probably can't cope with boundaries or other people having independence. So likely to become a Not My Problem person real fast.
