In reply to the discussion: I have an honest question. How many people here actually text and drive? [View all]moonscape
(5,796 posts)81. I don't text, but have an equally bad confession, even
though it was about 40 years ago. I used to ... tough to admit ... try to read books while in rush hour traffic. Thought I was so clever - would hold the book/magazine along with the steering wheel, as if because it was right in front of me it'd be okay.
One day the inevitable happened, I rear-ended the car in front. Thankfully it was just a tap, no damage to either car, but that cured me. Felt like an idiot!
Even if I did text, I know I wouldn't do it while driving because now I pull over if I need to check something on my iPad.

OP
Had to put my ringtone to an old rotary phone sound, otherwise I just ignored it as all new gadgets

I don't ever text and drive - even at stop lights - as I'm too busy reading the newspaper and playing Candy Crush.

Phone is synced to car, steering wheel has buttons for accepting/rejecting calls.

Even driving and talking on a hands free cell phone is dangerous for some people.

I don't drive, but I cannot stand it when I am in a car with a driver who texts.

Not me. I have a hard time when I'm NOT driving, lol. I hate screen touch keypads.
