(21,020 posts)having read through the replies here, is that many people feel that if they aren't personally offended by something, then nobody else should be, either.
Well, there are people out there in the world who are uncomfortable with public breastfeeding. Never mind why. It's nobody else's business why.
That doesn't mean the offended or uncomfortable ones have to get all nasty and say unkind things.
But neither is it cool for people who call themselves "Liberals" or "Progressives" to put down anyone who, for one reason or another, are bothered by certain things. How about a little common courtesy? That would be nice. How about realizing that not everyone is going to feel comfortable with certain things and doing what one needs to do while being considerate of the sensitivities of others?
This in-your-face, "fuck you...grow up!" attitude so many people seem to have is disgusting. As if they're the only ones walking around in the world and nobody else's feelings matter.
PS...public breastfeeding doesn't bother me. But I do appreciate when a woman makes an effort to consider other people, like my stepdaughter did after her daughter was born this past May. She either left the room, or covered up with a light scarf to feed her baby.
