Application is accepted. There are no openings on my county board at this time, but mine is on file.

Not that I worry much about my county -- bluest of the blue in a blue state -- but I know enough from my paternal grandmother talking about my parent's draft number to not rely on my community to be fair. My parent's family lived in a well-off county then, but one grandparent was a master machinist at an automotive plant, and the other was legally an accountant, plus a mathematician, and thanks to sexism was officially a bookkeeper or computer. They looked very blue collar on paper. Eldest uncle was too young for Korea, and too old by the time the draft ramped up. Middle uncle got and maintained an academic deferment by being at one of the extremely prestigious universities. My parent, the baby... had screwed off during HS, and had a low number. My parent joined the Navy, because the Board would have sent his ass "to straighten him out." While sending their own sons abroad, to university, getting them fictitious disorders...

Never again. If there's a draft, it applies to everyone.
