(23,272 posts)isn't rational (except to you). My mother believes any gay couple holding hands in public is "unclassy". She's also offended at mixed race couples. She's horrified if someone forgets to put their napkin on their lap and when I open my own car door instead of waiting for my husband - how "unclassy". That's how I was raised. There are hundreds of manufactured "classy" and "unclassy" things people do in her opinion. But that's just the thing: they are her OPINION and without any substantiated basis in fact.
As an adult, I KNOW she's wrong on all of the above. You too can begin to shed your prejudices and manufactured offense at outdated notions that simply don't apply anymore such as being "offended" at a woman breastfeeding her child in public. We are long past a time in our society when any woman should be shamed into hiding a nursing baby. We now have factual evidence of the enormous value in breastfeeding and we should be celebrating it, encouraging it, and helping EVERY mother in being successful at it. It's not shameful in any way and frankly, saying a woman breastfeeding is "unclassy" is wrong, wrong, wrong.
Oh, I know. You're only talking about the "covered" vs "uncovered" breast right? I don't buy that for a moment. It all goes together and you either support a woman's right to nurse her baby in public, in the way she and the baby are most comfortable, or you do not.
