(31,261 posts)Smart machines (robots, artificial intelligence apps) are eliminating human workers, while concentrating wealth more in the hands of the already wealthy. Yes, we will occasionally have not wealthy people create a Microsoft or Apple and become obscenely rich, but 99% of Americans will see their income drop as smart machines take an expanding number of job classifications.
The only solution is a completely new economic model along the lines of European Social Democracy on steroids. In that model, capitalism exists, but capitalists can only take a limited amount, the rest is shared with the rest of society extensively. Under this model, work will still be valued and people that want them can still have luxuries beyond what is needed to be happy and content. In that system, every living person would be guaranteed a livable income that would supply their basis needs at a level where they are never destitute - such benefits would allow for luxuries like vacations and travel.
Most Democrats are afraid to propose the only economic model that will allow everyone to live in peace, free of fear, because they would be attacked as being socialists. In fact, the required system is anything but socialism, it is the only system that will allow capitalism to survive and thrive as smart machines impose their grip on more and more jobs.
