you're just not like other people. You're surrounded by an incredible bubble. You don't exist in the same universe, basically.

With Jackson you had someone likely with some severe emotional issues (to put it mildly) but probably, fundamentally, kind-hearted and decent.

Throw someone pathologically nasty into that existence and you get... something worse.
