Think about the dystopian scenarios of the government buying our internet histories [View all]

and having a super computer compile them into a database according to subject and then using those search trends to run preliminary profiles of potential undocumented immigrants, drug offenders, critics of the administration; or even excessively prosecute dissenters for minor infractions like pirating (perhaps even streaming pirated content) or accidentally viewing pornography where the subjects are underaged (but not in a way that's identifiable), locking political opponents and protest organizers up for innocuous infractions. Local authorities would receive "hit lists" for their counties, free of charge from the fed.
