(38,917 posts)on his personal time, that's his business. But he cannot treat women, or a subgroup of them, differently from other people at work on the basis of their being female.
Put yourself in her position, particularly if most men in positions with whom you need to interact to exchange business info, build relationships, etc., were to follow the same rule. You are disadvantaged at work and clearly viewed exclusively through the lens of your gender in this scenario. And from an etiquette standpoint, what signal is he sending to women with whom he WILL have lunch, etc.? That they are unattractive, too old, etc.? Not good behavior.
The solution is to expect oneself to maintain standards of professional, respectful behavior at all times in any work-related setting, with members of all groups. and to ensure these standards are met.
