(3,900 posts)When it starts getting close to the 2018 elections, and the Republicans start seeing their poll numbers go into the tank due to their being tied to Trump, they'll do anything to save their oily hides. They will vote to impeach so they can go campaign in their home districts on, "I know you guys hate Trump. I do too. Lookie, I voted to impeach him! I'm just like you! Vote for me again!"
I can't possibly be the only person who remembers 2008. The country was SO anti-Bush that anyone tied to him got swept out of office. Democrats won political offices all over the nation just because the country was so sick and tired of Bush and the lapdogs who enabled him. I see a similar phenomenon coming in 2018. And any Republicans who remember that as well will start distancing themselves from Trump as soon as they see THEIR numbers start to dip.
Also, for as many Republicans as there were during the primaries saying they would never support Trump, I can't believe there hasn't been some movement to get him out of there and get Pence in. Pence is seen as "one of them." Why do they continue to put up with Trump killing their "brand" when they can get "one of their own" into his position easily? Doesn't make sense to me.
At the end of the day, Republicans are spineless, so we may not get full-fledged impeachment until Democrats re-take the Congress in 2018, but I feel confident we'll ride this assclown currently squatting in our White House out on a rail before his term is up.
