about how long Trump has been unhappy with Comey?

Remember, back then, Comey had recently handed the election to Trump - and Trump mistakenly believed that meant Comey was loyal to him. When Comey continued to investigate the Russian election interference, and asked for additional funds 2-3 days ago to speed up the investigation, that was perceived by Trump as disloyalty. Above all else, Trump punishes disloyalty. And he makes junk up out of whole cloth to explain it.

And he demands his mouthpieces either spout his lies or make up their own - becasue if they don't, they will immediately be perceived as disloyal - and publicly fired.
