It turns out (I didn't know this before) that about half the US population runs on nothing but hate.

Show them that you hate others and you're their guy.

Add to that the truly gullible who thought that a billionaire who didn't even pay his bills was going to go to bat for the average, working-class people (!!! how the hell ???) and you've got enough people to make it a contest.

Then the Russian thing...
