This. You would think they would bask in their victories, not lash out at the side who lost. I can't think of any other reason why their anger is just expanding besides the one you mentioned.
"A candle burns it's brightest before it goes out." Of course, they aren't bright and they aren't shedding any light, but I think that this show of "strength", force, rage, power - whatever you want to call it - are the death throes of the extreme right.
