3. It's not dishonest ... it shows that it's a distinction without a difference

If someone comes into a workplace and kills people because they were fired and disgruntled, we'd call it a tragedy and probably go right back to our normal business.

If that same person, instead of being fired, came into the same workplace and killed the same people while shouting "Allahu Akbar", all of a sudden it's elevated to the status of terrorism. The same people would be dead; we'd have the same traumatized survivors.

The only difference is, all the same old bigoted players would now call for banning Muslims from our country. And we'd be gnashing our teeth over it for days. And that there is such a difference is a load of crap.
