Or right wing extremism or left wing extremism.
Or religious bigotry or anti-religion bigotry and hate.
Or political bigotry and hate.

Phew! Put that way, you're right. It couldn't happen here.

Oh, wait. Political scientists are measuring growth in political extremism on BOTH the right and left on America. A good 2/3 of our people have great hostility toward the other party, a large number of those unreachable by truth. As we see this increasing demonization of the other right here on DU.

It's no longer just a right-wing thing. Large numbers of citizens are developing increasingly extreme viewpoints, and some are beginning to look for extreme solutions.
