25. Ford was picked specifically because he was an honorable man

After Nixon, the Republicans knew they were screwed in 1976. They needed a nice, honest, inoffensive man who wouldn't mind finishing out his political career by serving as President of the United States to soothe the country for two years until the Democrats moved into the White House in 1977. Ford was the perfect man for the job.
