(5,737 posts)Your observations are correct. Some seem to think that the Democratic Party is not far enough to the left. But most of those people are novices and new to politics and voting. Bernie Sanders is a god to them too. There is no "we", it is all about "me" to them. Sanders "free" comments sucked them in like a sponge. People that have been around for a while understand that there is no perfect Democrat. That is the great thing about the Party - it can be all-inclusive. To me personally anyway, if a person thinks 100% like me all the time, I'd be afraid of them.
A current sticking talking point seems to be the "personally against abortion" viewpoint. Some one here will criticize and degrade a person for that position, even though that person lives by every other position that the Democratic Party stands for. The Democratic Party is a huge tent where all sorts of viewpoints should be accepted.
The constant chatter about how easy it would be to move to a single-payer healthcare system is another one of those areas. Some think it is as easy as waving a magic wand. They can't seem to accept that the ACA was a move in that direction, but that it will take several years to get anywhere close to it. Healthcare really is that hard.
Now back to Sanders. Why do so many of his supporters jump onto that free college nonsense? Because they think a person has to go to college to get anywhere in life. I have two degrees, and will be the first to say "nonsense" to that educational route. When about 1/4 of the incoming freshmen to a college never come back for the second semester, then another 1/4 will never come back for their second year, and only about 1/3 of that group will ever get a college degree, it is time to step back from that free tuition talk. The union building trades have apprenticeship programs that have jobs that end up making more than over half of those with a college degree. Plus they get paid while they learn and the school costs nothing - the contractors pay for it.
I hope you enjoy your time here.
