(3,236 posts)Sometimes it is too hard to see if the baby is latched on properly. Sometimes the baby won't nurse under a blanket. Perhaps the mom is too hot or the baby? I take it you have never had to use a hooter hider? They can be very cumbersome and awkward, and blankets get thrown every which way, or just fall off.
I manage to use one anyway, but it my CHOICE, and not really my place to judge other moms. They legally have the right to breastfeed whichever way they wish. Doesn't matter what you or I or anyone else on this board thinks. If you hate it, perhaps you can push your legislator to introduce a bill demanding women remain covered when breastfeeding. Until then, you can complain on DU and other internet sites anonymously where you can compare peeing to eating, avert your eyes when you see a boob, don't visit places where moms and babes go, or maybe even go up to the mom and express your disgust right to her face.
I was raised thinking exactly like you - then I HAD A BABY and realized how very wrong I was. Yeah, my hubby likes the boobies - but so what? These gals are strictly feeders now and I don't know if I could ever think of them another way again. My husband (and anyone else for that matter) comes after my baby when it comes to the boobs. And, as others have said in this thread, it is primarily in America where you see this breast obsession. So, why should a woman hide her breasts so they don't arouse the men? I think they do something similar in Sharia countries where women must be hidden head to toe, no? "Just in case" the men get a warm feeling from seeing, god forbid, a little woman flesh.
