In reply to the discussion: Words you would use to describe Republican voters. [View all]cherokeeprogressive
(24,853 posts)Your OP concerned the way people vote. I know plenty of people who vote R and I don't think I'd use any of the hateful adjectives I see in your post or most of its replies to describe them.
I responded to a post the other day which made the claim that "the majority of republicans would gladly see us dead or in concentration camps". It also said that they happily say so in public. That's making the claim that around 32 million people regularly say in public that they'd have no problem putting Dems in concentration camps or simply killing them outright. While your OP doesn't quite rise to that level of hyperbole, it does claim that "This is a war for our survival." I'm assuming you mean Democrats in general, and should a republican win the White House we will cease to exist as a party and/or as individuals. That kind of thinking is simply a little too extreme for me. It's almost like the posts after the election in 2008 making claims to the effect that the republican party was drawing its last breaths.
Sure, some who vote republican can be described as you and some of the other posters see them. I try not to over-generalize though and will never give up hope that sooner or later everyone can be influenced in such a way so as to see the light.
That's why I'll stop at describing people who vote republican as misguided and resist the urge to dehumanize them.
