5. I would highly recommend a public adjuster too!

I don't know how the insurance laws work in Texas, but in Florida you really need your own adjuster. After Hurricane Wilma hit, my insurance company wanted me to repair my water logged kitchen cabinets and re-hang them. I hired a public adjuster and they more than tripled my claim. In Florida the max the adjuster can charge you is 10% of your settlement. It was well worth the fee to have a professional represent me to my insurance company.
