It's an interesting mental exercise, though. Suppose you aren't old or disabled and you don't have any kids and you can do that. You bike 300 miles north and you're still in Florida, you still get hit by the hurricane. There are so many shelters set up that you probably find one that's just like the ones near home, and you ride out the storm there. Then what? How do you bike back 300 miles on wrecked roads covered with debris? How many spare tubes do you have? Not enough. Do you ditch the bike and walk home? How long does that take? Stores and restaurants are closed and there isn't any clean drinking water. And so on.
