(620 posts)44. Sometimes. Categories don't take storm surge into consideration
and that's often the worst aspect of a storm. There are Cat 2s with bigger storm surge than Cat 4s. And of course, the landfall timing matters with regard to where the tide is in its cycle. SaffirSimpson is all wind.
This is why there's talk of changing the SSHWS. And as the sayings go: "run from water, hide from wind" and "evacuate for water, not wind."
