In reply to the discussion: Has Bernie Sanders said anything about Trump's attacks on black athletes? [View all]EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)But they're right. While it would be nice if she said something, Hillary is not a government official and she is not presenting herself as a party leader or the voice of the progressive wing of our party.
I believe that race, racism, the plethora of murders of black men and boys at the hands of police officers are just as critical as - if not more crtitical than - the issues that Bernie thinks are deal breakers and I wish he would demonstrate as much interest in and passion about them as he does about the issues he's focusing on. That's not an attack on him (I can't believe I even need to say that, but it is what it is), but he does seem to have a real blind spot about this.
I am surprised he hasn't said anything about this and really thought I just couldn't find it, since it's such a big deal - Twitter's been blowing up all day, it's led all the news shows and just look at the DU board, which is full of comments - and it would be no skin off of his nose, even if he's busy with debate prep, to condemn Trump's comments and/or to support the African-American athletes who are under attack.
