Found NO contemporaneous articles supporting what Kelly claimed Wilson said at FBI bldg dedication, [View all]

nothing at all to back up the nonsense Kelly spouted today:

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/national-politics/article179869321.html

“A congresswoman stood up, and in a long tradition of empty barrels making the most noise, stood up there in all of that and talked about how she was instrumental in getting the funding for that building, and how she took care of her constituents because she got the money, and she just called up President Obama, and on that phone call, he gave the money, the $20 million, to build the building, and she sat down,” Kelly told reporters.

It's very unlikely Rep. Wilson would have said anything so outlandish and untrue -- she had nothing to do with the funding for the building, had never claimed she did, but she did sponsor the bill to name the building after the two agents. According to the Miami Herald, Miami Republicans praised her for that. Comey praised her as well at the dedication.

Kelly claimed she referred to $20 million. The building in fact cost nearly $200 million.

But no matter what amount of money Wilson might have supposedly referred to in the boastful comments Kelly claims she made, the media would have been all over any such remarks at the time. They would not have allowed her to get away with anything like that.

Kelly either lied, knowingly and viciously, or he's been motivated by such (racist?) animus against her that he subconsciously distorted his memory of what she actually said that day.

Either way, he's contemptible for having attacked her this way.

And he has zero credibility left.

Editing to add that I've posted part of a Sun-Sentinel story in reply 2 below, as an example of how media accounts at the time differ from Kelly's lie today.

Editing again Friday morning to add that I finally found contemporaneous transcripts of what Rep. Wilson said, which bears no resemblance to what Kelly claimed she said. See this topic:
