3. Not any more. Most airline pilots come from the civilian sector.

I used to work for an airline in its training department, and I'd say that fewer than 1/2 of our new hires were ex-military. It's probably even less than that now. After the Vietnam War was over there were a lot of ex-military pilots looking for airline jobs but over time those numbers decreased as the military services produced fewer and fewer pilots. Since they started using drones the demand for fighter pilots has decreased significantly. The fact that the Air Force is considering recalling some pilots suggests only that, because there has been so much less demand for military pilots in recent years, they under-recruited.
