(404 posts)For starters, Texas, Florida, and Arizona get the vast majority of our representatives in the Congressional reapportionment process, not to mention the loss of two perpetually progressive senators, and finally, the loss of 55 electoral votes. That would virtually guarantee a permanent (and most probably far more conservative/supremacist) Congress, as well as a permanent White Supremacist in the White House. This would not bode well for the progressives left behind. What California could do is to move the Chinese and/or Russian military into the bases that the US would have to surrender in California so that the balance of power would completely ensure that the U.S. radicalized white supremacist Republicans don't attack California and retake it in a coup, but that won't be the least of its problems.
In short, better just to ignore the bastards in the White House and Congress and enact progressive laws, and work to get current red states to go blue. Far better for everyone concerned. In the long run, a progressive United States can merge with Canada and Mexico to form a progressive North American Union, which would ensure that the new Constitution precludes the destructive elements of the original US Constitution and adds new ones to guarantee single payer, full rights for all citizens, and progressive governance for all. In short, I want the entire US to secede from its white supremacist constitution and merge with progressive entities on a global scale. THAT is ONE secessional movement that we should be striving for (and we already are, to be quite frank!).
