As a rule, Republicans are cowards. They do NOT attack countries they think will shoot back.

Reagan "courageously" attack the tiny Caribbean island of Grenada. Bush Sr. attacked Panama. He stopped at the Iraqi border, wisely enough. Cheney and Rumsfeld cook up phony "intelligence" to lead up to the Iraq invasion, which Rummy claimed in the first few days would last "maybe six days, maybe six weeks, certainly not six months." oops. But that was not intentional. It was a major miscalculation. They invaded because they THOUGHT it would be a cakewalk. Bush Jr. invaded Afghanistan because he thought he would find Osama bin Laden quickly, and leave claiming "my work is done here."

This is why they never invaded Iran. This is the only argument I ever won with Wes Clark. He thought Cheney would try to invade Iran, too. I said no way: They KNEW Iran would shoot back. Big time. So would North Korea. They have 5% or so of their population in the military. That would be the equivalent of the USA having 17 MILLION men and women in our military. There is no way in hell that we invade North Korea without tens of thousands of American dead and millions of Koreans. Kim has nukes, and will at least use them locally if he sees his situation as hopeless. Then Trump would try to use ours just because it's a toy he hasn't played with yet. I'm not sure our military is comfortable with him doing that, and they may balk at such an order unless Kim uses one on us first. For that matter, they might disobey a direct order to invade North Korea outright, and risk the constitutional consequences, declaring such an order a clear sign of insanity, and insist that the 25th amendment be invoked.
