8 shot dead at multiple crime scenes in rural Missouri [View all]

Source: USA Today

The bodies of 8 people were found shot to death early Friday at multiple locations in rural south-central Missouri after sheriff's deputies responded to a call from a young girl reporting gunshots in her house in Tyrone, Mo., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The dead included the alleged 36-year-old gunman, who apparently killed himself in a parked vehicle in an adjoining county. One person was hospitalized with injuries, the highway patrol said.

A ninth body also found by deputies was an elderly woman who apparently had died of natural causes, the highway patrol said.

Texas County sheriff's deputies found bodies in four separate residences in the Tyrone area after responding to a call around 10:15 p.m. Thursday about a disturbance. The caller, described as a juvenile girl, reported hearing shots in her house "and immediately fled to a neighbor's house," the statement said.

Multiple killings under investigation in Missouri

Nine people have been killed in southern Missouri, a county sheriff confirmed to a local newspaper Friday.

Texas County Sheriff James Sigman confirmed the killings to the Houston Herald Friday morning.

Sigman told the newspaper that there were four confirmed crime scenes and possibly two more.

He didn't provide the newspaper with information about a possible suspect.
