10. The anti-teacher backlash

Reminds me of the semi-annual school protests against Huckleberry Finn because it used the word "nigger" in it (repeatedly and distastefully).

Well, unfair treatment of slaves/former slaves/lower-class whites was pretty much the point of the book, and that word and the stigma attached to it was part of it.

And Showing an absurd "reefer madness" style movie about gays makes perfect sense in the context of teaching history.

I remember reading "Mein Kampf" in junior high, as part of a summer class put on by the JCC. It was a powerful education regarding hatred and the manipulation of people.

People coddle their kids too much. The world can be a pretty hateful and dangerous place and to hide that from kids does them a disservice.
