(25,406 posts)If we commodify higher education in the same way that we do with any other consumer good, then it's easy to use the, "If you want a fancy car, then pay for it yourself," line of thinking.
He's a bit desperate to establish conservative cred with GOP caucus and primary voters, and he really doesn't have any other issues that excite them other than vetoing marriage equality. He is sensitive to the idea among his base that college is often just extended adolescence, where the government takes over from mommy and daddy in subsidizing sloth. Let's face it, manipulating that attitude put student debt into the virtually unforgivable category when it comes to bankruptcy law.
In any case, he's going nowhere. Part of the reason they scrapped the Iowa straw poll is that it would be embarassing for at least half a dozen Repukes, and he'd surely be in that category.
