Texas officially removes Planned Parenthood from Medicaid [View all]

Source: Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN Texas officially removed Planned Parenthood from the state's Medicaid program Tuesday, according to a report from the Texas Tribune.

A legal notice obtained by the Tribune said the $3 million in Medicaid reimbursements the organization received in 2015 will be cancelled in 30 days. Planned Parenthood could request a hearing with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to delay the cutoff date, but officials told the Tribune they would resolve the matter in court.

"Planned Parenthood continues to serve Medicaid patients and will seek a preliminary injunction in an ongoing lawsuit filed in November 2015, following the state's original threats to take action against Planned Parenthood's patients," Yvonne Gutierrez, executive director of Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, told the Tribune.

The state has been looking to completely remove Planned Parenthood from the state's Medicaid program since October, after a series of undercover videos was released that showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing the use of fetal tissue for research.
