In reply to the discussion: Spicer Says Hitler Didnt Use Chemical Weapons 'In The Way Assad Used Them' (VIDEO) [View all]jmowreader
(53,079 posts)Nor did Saddam consider the Kurds his people. This made the gassings okay in their eyes but not in the eyes of anyone else in the world.
As far as battlefield use of gas...Hitler had a chemical warfare program. The nerve gases Tabun and Sarin were accidentally invented by Bayer chemist Gerard Schroeder...Schroeder was an insecticide chemist, was trying to make a better insecticide, and invented something that killed people as easily as it did bugs. Hitler didn't use chemicals in Germany on the battlefield for three reasons: he didn't want to gas "his people," he was afraid of British retaliation (the Brits invented chemical warfare and had a huge program) and he'd been gassed himself during World War I.
None of which excuses Spicer's clear Godwin's Law violation.
