I just cannot fathom how people who were purportedly sent to Congress to represent the best interests of their constituents could instead, and gleefully, and publicly, give them a big F U instead.

And I really don't get why so many of their constituents don't seem to mind. But that's a separate issue. It just seems like political malpractice for a representative to actively and deliberately harm the people in his or her district.
