And there are a variety of factors involved, including the consolidation of media and vote suppression tactics that we should have been concerned about for a long time, not to mention Citizens United, which, if the so-called left hadn't demonized Al Gore so much in 2000, would never have become law because we would have had better justices.

No one is arguing those numbers. But right now, as Democrats actually have real momentum and are picking up seats, is not the time to start with the divide-and-conquer tactics.

The third-party candidates who are ostensibly from the left need to focus their attacks on conservatives. It made no sense that Jill Stein ran against Hillary, not Trump, nor that Nader ran against Gore, not Bush. We don't have a parliamentary system here where you can have parties form coalitions and alliances.
