(6,496 posts)Pretty much all the time. That's why we voted to change the voting method to ranked choice voting, but be aware that we can only use it in certain elections at this point. We can use it for general election us house and US senate races. It can be used for all primary races. We are still working on getting it so we can use ranked choice voting for general election Maine house, Maine senate, and governors race. So if we end up with the dumb ass Republican governor,it would be because we have two independents in the race besides the republican and the dem. Unfortunately, the independents usually spoil it for the dems. With the ranked choice system, the independents would not be spoilers anymore. No one could be elected without 50% of the vote. LePage never received 50% of the vote. Also, as far as republicans go, Collins is generally reasonable and that is the only reason we are even talking about her right now. It is because with her there is a possibility she can be swayed to vote with the dems and she has many times in the past.
