I'm an Alabamian and know people associated with the Doug Jones campaign. They are hopeful but when pressed will say it's an uphill battle. The stars aligned for Alabama Dems when Roy Moore was catapulted as the GOP senate nominee against Jones. That was the main reason Doug won. He had a wonderful campaign, of course, and ran as a centrist which helped. But in the end it was the nastiness of his GOP challenger that helped.

I think Doug will be up against Tommy Tuberville this time. Either Tommy or Sessions, but I think Sessions has been so ruined by Trump that even Trump can't bring him back. Tommy Tuberville is an ex Auburn coach who has a following of sorts. If Doug is up against him, Doug loses. Even Alabama fans will vote for Tuberville over Jones. I think Doug also loses to Sessions if Jeff becomes the GOP nominee.

It's bleak. I've encouraged all of my children to get as far away from this state as possible. That saddens me as a life long Alabamian but we can't pretend that Alabama is going to be purple any time in the near or even far future.
