Edwards was reasonably popular even among moderate republicans (pro life) and LA will elect dems from time to time. The republican running against Edwards was about the most lackluster candidate they could have ever picked, bad choice against the charismatic Edwards in a good Economy. Jindals ghost was still lurking too.
