Remember, the point of shutting down was to prevent us all from getting it at once and overwhelming the hospital system, not to reduce the overall number of people who get it. It's too late to contain it. Sweden, from what I understand, was in better shape to begin with in terms of hospital capacity and therefore didn't have to shut down as much.
