He knows the jig is up. And making nice won't change the ramifications. He's played a very dangerous game for a rump state that hides behind its nuclear weapons. Their economy is a mess as usual. Violent crime and suicide are still epidemic. Their population is still shrinking and Russian males have a shorter life expectancy than Pakistanis. Short of their nukes, their military is as much a paper tiger as it was during the break up. A rogue state that's highly vulnerable to real, tough economic sanctions. One of the few things going for them is Western Europe's dependence on Russian nat. gas. I'm waiting for him to start playing that card this Winter.
