But Boxer only initiated a Senate discussion on voter suppression tactics; ultimately she did vote to uphold the election results and in that case, the losing Democratic candidate,John Kerry, had already conceded. As I recall, she again objected when the Supreme Court halted a vote count in Florida and gave an election to Bush over Gore by one vote. But she still certified the votes.
Still, it could be a dangerous precedent to oust any Senator who objects to a vote. Boxer serves as an example of a legitimiate use of that power.
We would be better off to sanction or oust those who incited violence or actively aided the insurrectionists, such as those who used violent rhetoric beforehand, gave tours to known members of extremist groups, etc.
