55. The person I originally responded to argued that guns had no purpose but for killing.

That seemed to be her sole criteria for banning them.

I responded that bow and arrows were also that way and was hoping for a response from here as to if she agreed. I have not gotten a response.

Your criteria appears to be that the number of people killed or who commit suicide should be what matters. That's different then what the person I responded to said.

Items like knives and scissors have other, far more commonly used purposes and were invented for such.

If you wish to ban or place tight controls on guns because of their use in murders or suicides, that is fine with me.

Edit: I have a 6 shot revolver and I'm licensed and trained to have it. Sometimes I'd get together with my eldest step-son and my son-in-law and we'd go to the local range and shoot. We haven't done that for awhile as ammo has been hard to find. The only other gun I intend to get is a single shot break action shotgun. Another possibility is a 2 shot .38 Special derringer which is something I could carry with me almost all the time for protection but since the threat is so low, I probably won't spend my money on such.
