116. When I was a federal employee, I was subject to the Hatch Act.
Thu Oct 18, 2012, 03:22 AM
Oct 2012

While I - and others - have problems with that Act, its stated purpose was to insulate federal employees from perceived coercion by whatever political party was in power. Its true purpose may have been something else.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatch_Act_of_1939

The action as suggested by Romney and as reportedly practiced by some employers is exactly the type of perceived - if not actual - coercion that is forbidden by the Hatch Act. So, as I understand your comments, you have no problem with this perceived - if not actual - coercion in the private sector.

Your response about unions telling their membership how to vote is a red herring. A union does not have the power to hire and fire, as does an employer.
