In reply to the discussion: Leaked Audio Captures Romney Asking Employers To Tell Their Employees How To Vote [View all]Swede Atlanta
(3,596 posts)In 2008 I voted as soon as the polls opened and got to the office when the parking deck was fairly empty. When I went down at lunch there was a McCain/Palin flyer on every car, including mine. This is on private property.
I went to the office of the property management company and raised a verbal complaint which I followed up with a strong letter to them as well. I then contacted my employer and the other major tenants in the building.
The basic thrust of my letter was that I feel the right to vote was very personal and I did not feel it was appropriate to be solicited, on private property, to be solicited to vote for any candidate or support any political issue. This is especially true when the owner of the property leases office space to a broad array of businesses that may not agree with the property owner. And the leasing businesses have employees that may not agree with the solicitation.
The property management company wrote a letter of apology. They stated they were not aware the activity was going on but would look at surveillance video and pursue further. They have clearly posted "No Solicitation" signs. They agreed that solicitation means any manner of solicitation since this is private property. I never heard anything back from them but I do intend to contact them in advance of this year's election they may want to have someone monitoring the parking deck.
