The NYT has charts that show the recent cases and hospitalization numbers per 100,000 by state. If you look at cases, Vermont and other northeastern states are nearly the worst,but if you look at hospitalizations though, Vermont is among the best. Vermont has one of the highest rates of people being vaccinated.

Now consider Vermont has an unusually high percent of older people. If the vaccine were not extremely helpful, Vermont would be among the worst in hospitalization.
