If it is true, then hospitalizations and deaths should be showing the same vertical spike as case numbers, assuming the new cases are nearly caused by the latest mutation. Except neither hospitalizations nor deaths are.

The latest mutation may be better at evading vaccine derived immunity, but I doubt it is evading the entire human immune system.
